For people interested in making a career out of programming and also newbies/junior developers, these are 10 good tips that can enhance your performance and make you a better developer.

  1. Try to Learn one new thing every day even if it’s just a nice little trick/tip.
  2. Don’t feel obligated to keep up with every new language/platform/package (especially in web development this is exhausting).

  3. It’s not up to you to decide if you’re qualified for a job, so don’t be afraid to apply.

  4. Try to read intermediate/senior developers code frequently.

  5. Build Projects around things that interest you.

  6. Don’t be afraid to contribute to Open source. You can start from writing a very good documentation for an open source project. There are so many open source projects with poor documentation, improve on it and submit a pull request.

  7. Grab some design patterns book and start reading.

  8. Be Knowledgeable about Test Driven Development and aspire to learn to write tests!

  9. Don’t be an asshole. If you think you are smart, someone else is smarter, so show empathy to other developers.

  10. Develop Confidence and Charisma.  Even when you are talking about shit you don’t know, people still think you know!
